Between endless rows of carrots and the Spanish sun beating down on 700 hectares of farmland, one grower in Valladolid decided to give tradition a twist, with the help of technology.
His secret weapon? iControlRemote, the remote irrigation management tool that has completely redefined the way he and his team approach watering. With over 15 pivots spread between two farms (yes, two!), he now runs everything from the palm of his hand, literally. “I start, stop, and schedule irrigation from my phone or tablet, whether I’m at the farm or at home,” he told us with a smile.
One of his key fields, 120 hectares of full irrigation, combines sprinklers and pivots. And while he still uses coverage systems, pivots quickly won his heart. “They’re just easier. Less manual work, less time in the field,” he says. And thanks to iControlRemote, he’s left the era of 24/7 field patrol behind. “We still keep watch, especially during the busy season, but now I can take a proper break, and even a vacation!”
The system doesn’t just let him water from afar, it also keeps an eye on things. With real-time alerts and a full overview of system status, he always knows what’s going on. “Carrot season starts in April and runs until November, though we harvest all year. Having this level of control saves time and helps us avoid surprises.”
And no, he didn’t have to replace all his pivots to get started. Even with different manufacturers, installation was quick and smooth. “Just a few tweaks to the panels, and we were good to go.”
